Excellent value for money. For the price you pay you get an absolute speedy small SSD. The SSD itself comes with a leather pouch, USB-C to USB-A adapter and a 30CM USB A to USB C data cable. The drive is small, thin and light weight (Think of a Milky Way bar!). I tested this drive on my PC and the speeds given match what has been said in description. I am lucky to to have a motherboard which has a USB 3.2. Gen 2 USB A&C ports at the back. On the front PC case (NZXT H510) I have a USB-C port and USB A port, unfortunately the motherboard does not have a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Front header, so the speeds here are only at 5Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 1). The first image with speeds at 458 is the front IO ports, this is a decent speed with quick transfers even though it is not at is maximum speed. This was tested at 1 GiB. The second image with the speeds at 509 was tested on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port 1GiB, as you can see the speeds have increased quite a bit both read and write, with surprisingly writes being slightly faster (but we could probably ignore this was this was only 1 test) The third image shows tests using 16GIB and the speeds are still fast on the Gen 2 port at over 500MB/s The fourth image this time using 10 16 MiB data and the drive speeds increase to it's advertised 550 MB/S impressive! The 5th image shows copying files from a Kingston USB data traveller (128GB) to the SSD 11GB of data (ISO files of Linux OS) this took around 60 seconds and stayed at a consistent speed of 200MB/S very good! The 6th images shows copying from the SSD to my internal NVME (Downloads folder) again 11GB of data and this was being written at 460MB/s (My internal drive reaches reads/writes at around 2GB second). The 7th image shows copying the same files 11GB of data from my desktop PC to the SSD this was being done at speeds of 387MB/s these are very good speeds for a small drive. Lastly, the last image shown at speeds of 44MB/s this occurred when using a USB 3.0 cable so be warned you need a good quality reliable USB 3.2. Gen 2 cable to get the maximum speeds, the speeds may also be affected by external USB Hubs/Docks. --------------------------------- LINUX TESTS --------------------------------- I briefly tested this on Kali Linux copying the same files (no images) I was getting speeds of 360MB/s writes copying from laptop to SSD. (The laptop has an NVME at 2GB/s speed) This was with the drive at around 200GB capacity. Once I cleared this and started at 232GB (The actual disk space useable) I first initially got 700 MB/s for smaller 2GB files and then the speed dropped down to 400/500MB/s writing files to SSD from laptop. This is still very good speed, it took 20 seconds copying those files compared to 10 minutes when I copy from my USB Stick! Overall the price/value ratio is excellent the speed on the drive means I know longer need to wait 10 minutes for files to copy. One of the reasons I purchased this was because of the slow file transfers of USB sticks (looking at you Kingston!), this solves that problem and I can quickly get back to work. The drive is small enough to fit a pocket back. There are no negatives about this, personally I didn't need the leather pouch think it's just additional waste and not environment friendly, but this is a minor personal issue.

Small, fast when plugged into a usb 3 port. Too early to tell reliability, but all good so far.

This SSD seems to offer good value, with a decent amount of storage for around 70% of the prices for more established brands. For laptop users the slim profile and lightweight could be real advantages. *** Update following order of third unit - March 2025 Other updates noted with [+] in the text. The comments following the order of the previous two units still apply, though now I have more experience and information. One thing to note is that this unit does not have SMART [++] - a system for monitoring disk and SSD drive performance - and to mitigate in the case of imminent failure. Whether SMART is worth having I don't know - but this SSD does not have it. ++ [Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology.] The previous units were used with Apple laptops and were compatible with Time Machine. This unit is the same size as the earlier two, but the machine to back up is bigger. When trying to initialise the SSD for use with Time Machine a message came up that it should really be twice as big as the current storage to conform to recommendations. I had little alternative but to try it anyway, and so far it seems to have backed up most of the main desktop machine with about 100 Gbytes to spare. I can work round this issue if it does turn out to present problems by buying yet another larger drive of SSD for use with TM, and repurposing this one for other uses. If I had anticipated this it might have been better and slightly more economical to buy the 2Gbyte version or consider a larger storage device from another brand. Whether SMART would be advisable for devices like this I can't say right now, but I will consider that if I decide we need yet another device. Part of the reason for the integration of these devices is that the machine we use most does have TM installed, but sometimes runs and starts up very slowly. That could be because some TM snapshots are not being backed off to external storage, so there might be a performance benefit even if there are really no significant benefits in terms of data protection and security. Only time will tell whether this will be a real benefit, though if it defers the need to purchase another desktop machine for a year or more it will have been worthwhile. *** End of March 2025 update section I reformatted this for use with Apple MacOS and then reformatted it again for use with Time Machine. It is not the only backup device I use, and indeed I would hesitate to use this as the sole backup storage. [+] I can confirm that using one of the earlier units we did successfully recover all or most of the data from one of the laptops using TM - though it took a long while. Time wasn't a major issue though - we just needed to get that done. Now I am considering another one of these to provide storage during system maintenance operations, involving consolidating existing folders and clearing enough space off desktop and laptop machines to improve their performance and make updating easier. Another possible use is for VST musical instrument libraries, which often work well enough on external storage SSDs. Having more space available may permit easier and better organisation of available libraries. Until recently I used to rely on smaller SSDs [256Gbytes] installed in fairly cheap external enclosures, and they have proved to be fairly reliable. However using several different SSDs tends to require more USB connections, and that lead to the use of one or more external USB hubs, which can become unwieldy. A 1 Tbyte SSD is often large enough to do most of what is needed, and this unit will only require a single USB port. One thing to note is that from the specification it may not be up with the fastest data transfer rates possible with some other branded SSDs. I haven't checked the data rates possible as my interests are in creating duplicate copies of data files which can be done slowly enough, and I do use possibly faster and more certain reliable branded devices for primary backups - though even those may fail. So check whether the data rates from the specs are compatible with the intended application, and if they are, then consider reliability issues. So far the unit I bought has coped well with the applications and file duplications required. This is the basis for the award of 4 stars in the review.. I am hoping the device won't fail in the near future - but I have taken other precautions to minimise the risks in case it does. If it does fulfil its basic roles, and make system maintenance and restructuring easier, it will justify its cost, possibly allowing a delay in purchasing new hardware or software, though in the longer term I expect that new hardware and software systems will become necessary, but this might provide a useful stopgap solution to keep costs down.

This product has removed a video editing bottleneck in an otherwise fast machine. I have only been using it for a matter of days but so far it has performed very well. The case is metal and I have mounted it on to a metal frame using thermal tape and added a heat sink with a view to keeping things cool in use.

A very impressive device, and works well as Time Machine on Mac. Two things to note; it gets a little warm in use (I guess that's ok), and the cable requires an adaptor (which they supply), to connect to a Mac. (You can see this in the picture). I'd have preferred an end-to-end lead and for that, it loses one star. UPDATE: I have since discovered that, if left connected to my MacBook Pro, it stops the Safari browser from working. I am unclear what is causing this issue but it is as black and white as, if I eject and unplug the Z-Slim, the browser starts working and will stop mid-page if the device is plugged back in. FURTHER UPDATE: IN MY ORIGINAL REVIEW I MENTION THE DEVICE GETTING WARM. THIS HAS BECOME 'HEATING TO A POINT WHEREBY YOU CANNOT EVEN HANDLE IT' AND WITHIN ONLY A VERY FEW MINUTES OF BEING CONNECTED. ALSO, I WAS CONTACTED BY THEIR TECH SUPPORT TEAM ABOUT MY CONCERNS REGARDING CONFLICT WITH THE BROWSER AND WIFI. DESPITE ME REPLYING, IT HAS NOT BEEN FOLLOWED UP. I WILL PURSUE A REFUND FOR A PRODUCT I BELIEVE TO BE UNSAFE AND OF POOR FUNCTION. I AM ALSO SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED BY THEIR FAILURE TO FOLLOW UP MY COMPLAINT. ONCE AGAIN, IF THEY FINALLY PICK UP MY ISSUES, I WILL REVISE THIS REVIEW BUT, IN THE MEANTIME, AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE.
