Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing

Why?

BIIAB has developed the BIIAB Level 1 ARAR in response to industry-wide training requirements to demonstrate commitment to responsible alcohol retailing.

Who should take this qualification?

The BIIAB Level 1 ARAR is designed for anyone who works on licensed retail premises who is, or likely to be, involved in the sale of alcohol including:

• bar staff
• waiters/waitresses
• supermarket cashiers
• licensed shop cashiers

What's covered?

The nature of alcohol and the effect that it has on the human body, The main issues in the 2003 Licensing Act as they relate to alcohol retailers and servers, licensing law in relation to the protection of children from harm, the social responsibilities relating to the retail sale of alcohol, how to recognise drunkenness, and your duty not to serve drunk customers etc. For full details go to www.biiab.org.

What's the exam like?

The examination consists of 25 multiple-choice questions, three of which are compulsory. To pass the examination, candidates must answer the three compulsory questions in section one correctly and 14 out of 22 in section two correctly.

How long does it take?

The BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing has been designed to be delivered in less than a day and includes a short multiple-choice examination. A comprehensive handbook, presented in an easy-to-follow format, supports the qualification and covers all the information required to complete the examination.

How much?

1. £60*     to sit the exam at one of our centres
   
2. £155*   to self-study using an on-screen e-learning course then sit
                 the exam at one of our centres
   
3. £95*   to undertake a 2-hour brush-up session and then sit the exam
                 at one of our centres

We can come to you and deliver in your own office rooms for £300 a using a bank of laptops, or for £600 a day we can bring our 8-workstation Mobile Classroom.

This includes the BII book from which the questions are taken, registration and exam fees. * Plus VAT.
