Sustainability

Computer Gym

  • is committed to the principles and practices of environmental responsibility
  • recognises that it has a responsibility and it should take the opportunity to protect and nurture the environment.
  • by exercising proper control over its activities, will promote the use of sustainable resources and discourage wasteful or damaging practices.

Sustainability is a corporate value. It is a process of ensuring the wise use of all resources within a framework in which economic, environmental and social factors are integrated and balanced. This means improving the quality of life both now and for generations to come. We are currently applying for the Green Mark to help instill this ethos throughout the business.

  1. Computer Gym will manage its operations in ways that are environmentally sustainable and economically feasible.

  2. In order to achieve this aim Computer Gym is committed to being guided by the following principles:
    • creating a high quality working environment through the discouragement of litter, graffiti and noise pollution;
    • maintaining Computer Gym's facilities in an environmentally sensitive way;
    • conserving energy and giving preference to renewable sources wherever practicable.
    • as a minimum, comply with the requirements of relevant legislation;
    • making efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy and water;
    • establishing and maintaining a health and safety committee to address and monitor compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety guidelines, standards, laws, regulations, ordinances, and permit or license requirements.
    • encouraging all employees to improve their awareness of the environment and become more environmentally responsible
    • promoting sound environmental management policies and practices throughout Computer Gym;
    • promoting environmentally responsible procurement of goods and services subject to necessary budgetary constraints;;
    • reducing and, where practicable, preventing pollution;
    • minimising the impact of transport on the environment arising from its own vehicles;
    • raising awareness of staff of Computer Gym's environmental impact, activities and performance and promoting individual good practice.
    • practising of responsible energy management through reduced consumption and the encouragement of energy efficiency throughout the company;
    • encouraging the use of public transport and the provision of facilities for the disabled;
    • minimising waste by reduced consumption and the development of effective waste management and recycling procedures;
    • avoiding the unnecessary use of hazardous materials and processes, and the taking of all reasonable steps to prevent damage to either public or ecological health where such materials are in essential use;
    • continually monitoring and auditing its environmental policies and practice.

  3. The main responsibility for implementation of this policy lies with the Board of Directors and senior managers of the company. Whilst Computer Gym accepts the main responsibility for implementation of this policy, individuals have a very important role in co-operating with those responsible for safeguarding the environment. Individuals are required to abide by rules and requirements made under the authority of this policy.

Examples of our recent activity to support this commitment include: taking learning to learners, saving multiple car trips to us; provision of free bicycles to staff; “Water Hippos” in toilets; bottles water from AquaAid; recycling etc.
